Depart this morning and travel to New England. Wednesday, October 9
Today we’ll travel north into the White Mountain National Park and through Crawford Notch, the main passage through the center of the White Mountains. We’ll make a picture stop at the Mt. Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods and continue to Cannon Mountain where we’ll take a tram ride to the top. On a clear day, you can see the mountains of four states and Canada!
We’ll have time for lunch on our own at the Cannon Mt. Café. We’ll continue to the Visitor’s Center at the Flume GorgeWe’ll continue to Meredith, a charming town located on Lake Winnipesaukee. We’ll board the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad Train which travels from Meredith along Meredith Bay clinging to a shelf dug out over 100 years ago for the fast Montreal trains that passed through here. The ride is downhill most of the way to Weirs Beach. We pass through areas of unobstructed views of the lake with Mt Belknap in the background. We’ll enjoy a famous Hart's Turkey Farm catered Home-Made Style Dinner as Grandma served at Thanksgiving. The meal Includes Turkey, Potato, Gravy, Stuffing, Cranberry Sauce, Roll, Vegetable, Beverage and Dessert too! (B, D)
Thursday, October 10
After breakfast this morning, we head south to Moultonborough to visit the Castle in the Clouds. This 20th century mansion is set amid the Ossipee Mountains, with spectacular vistas of the mountains and the Lake. Have your cameras ready, fall foliage should be stunning!
We continue to the Squam Lake Natural Science Center in Holderness where we’ll have lunch at Walter’s Basin. We’ll board a canopied pontoon boat to discover Squam Lake’s beauty and majestic features and observe Loons and Bald Eagles in their natural habitat.
We’ll experience the beauty of Big Squam Lake and learn about the natural forces that created these lakes, the wildlife that makes them so special, and the people who have enjoyed these lakes for over 5,000 years. It was here that the movie “On Golden Pond” was filmed.
We’ll return to our hotel where dinner is served once again. (B, L, D)
Friday, October 11
This morning we head southeast into Maine, with its coastline of jagged rocks, lobster boats and lighthouses. We’ll travel first to Kennebunkport to browse the shops and have lunch on our own followed by a tour by Walkers Point, summer home of former President George Bush. We’ll stop at Stonewall Kitchen, known for its jams and jellies as well as sauces, condiments, mustards, baking mixes, and more. We’ll enjoy a traditional Lobster Bake with Entertainment before returning to our hotel.(B, D)
