Tuesday, October 5
After breakfast this morning, we head to the Moulton Farm and pick up our boxed lunch for today.
We begin our day at the Squam Lake Natural Science Center with a close-up and ranger-led encounter with some of the critters that inhabit the Granite State. Meet some of the wild animals you might see on a hike and learn what makes them suited for life in New England.
Then experience the beauty of Big Squam Lake on a canopied pontoon boat ride and learn about the natural forces that created these lakes, the wildlife that makes them so special, and the people who have enjoyed them for over 5,000 years. It was here that the movie “On Golden Pond” was filmed.
Later, we’ll visit the Castle in the Clouds in Moultonborough. This 20th century mansion is set amid the Ossipee Mountains, with spectacular vistas of the mountains and the Lake. Have your cameras ready, fall foliage should be stunning! Dinner is included once again. (B, L, D)
Wednesday, October 6
This morning we head southeast into Maine, with its coastline of jagged rocks, lobster boats and lighthouses. We’ll travel first to Kennebunkport to browse the shops and have lunch on our own followed by a tour by Walkers Point, summer home of former President George Bush. We’ll stop at Stonewall Kitchen, known for its jams and jellies as well as sauces, condiments, mustards, baking mixes, and more. We’ll enjoy a traditional Lobster Bake with Entertainment before returning to our hotel.
Thursday, October 7
Today we’ll travel north to Lincoln and then along the Kangamangus Scenic Highway with photo stops to Conway.
We’ll continue to Meredith, a charming town located on Lake Winnipesaukee, and board the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad Lunch Train which travels from Meredith along Meredith Bay clinging to a shelf dug out over 100 years ago for the fast Montreal trains that passed through here. The ride is downhill most of the way to Weirs Beach.
We pass through areas of unobstructed views of the lake with Mt Belknap in the background. We’ll enjoy a famous Hart's Turkey Farm catered Home-Made Style meal as Grandma served at Thanksgiving. The meal Includes Turkey, Potato, Gravy, Stuffing, Cranberry Sauce, Roll, Vegetable, Beverage and Dessert too! On our way back to our hotel, we’ll stop at Moulton Farm once again where we’ll enjoy an hour making our own centerpiece for our Thanksgiving Table. (B,L)
