Day 1 – Sunday, July 7

TBD           Depart Baltimore (BWI) for Rapid City (RAP)

TBD         Arrive Rapid City (RAP). Meet our local guide in the baggage claim area and be escorted to awaiting motorcoach for transfer to hotel.

                Welcome to the historic Hotel Alex Johnson, located in downtown Rapid City in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Since opening its doors on July 1, 1928, the hotel has played host to several presidents, countless celebrities, and a few spirits of its own. The handcrafted décor will leave you feeling that every step you take is a step back in time, while the amenities and services immerse you with modern comfort and luxury.

                The historic Hotel Alex Johnson has long been known as one of the most haunted hotels in South Dakota. From the “lady in white” to the ghost of Alex Johnson himself, there have been countless reports of spooky activity.

                Free evening with dinner on own.

                Downtown Rapid City features over 70 shops and 33 restaurants. You’ll find everything from art galleries, museums, fashionable boutiques, a variety of fine cuisine, the City of Presidents statues, and great entertainment.

                Located in the center of downtown Rapid City is Main Street Square……a fun-filled public space where you can build lasting memories.

Visitors to downtown Rapid City are greeted by the City of Presidents, a series of life-size bronze statues of our nation’s past presidents along the city’s streets and sidewalks.

 

Day 2 – Monday, July 8

7:00 a.m. –   8:30 a.m. Full breakfast included in a private room at the hotel.

8:30 a.m.           Depart hotel with guide for Mount Rushmore.

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Tour of Mount Rushmore.

                Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a massive sculpture carved into Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills region of South Dakota. Completed under the direction of Gutzon and Lincoln Borglum from 1927-1941, the sculpture’s roughly 60 foot high granite faces depict U.S. presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. The site also features a museum with interactive exhibits.

12:30 p.m. –   2:30 p.m. Tour of Crazy Horse Monument with lunch included.

                Crazy Horse Memorial is the world’s largest mountain carving, dedicated to preserving and honoring the North American Indian living culture. Crazy Horse Memorial offers something for everyone with large museums featuring an extensive collection of Native American artifacts, seminars, regular blasts on the Mountain, gift shop, and restaurant.

3:15 p.m. –   4:30 p.m. Tour of Custer State Park.

                Custer State Park is a state park and wildlife reserve in the Black Hills of southwestern South Dakota. The park is South Dakota’s largest and first state park, named after Lt. Colonel George Armstrong Custer. Custer State Park is famous for its bison herds, other wildlife, scenic drives, historic sites, and visitor centers. In fact, it was named as one of the World’s Top Ten Wildlife Destinations for the array of wildlife within the park’s borders and for the unbelievable access visitors have.

5:00 p.m.           Dinner included this evening at State Game Lodge.

6:30 p.m.           Return to hotel.

Day 3 – Tuesday, July 9

7:00 a.m. –   8:30 a.m. Full breakfast included in a private room at the hotel.

8:30 a.m.           Depart hotel with guide for “the Badlands”.

10:00 a.m.           Guided riding tour of “the Badlands” (awesome).

                Badlands National Park is known for its dramatic landscapes that span layered rock formations, steep canyons, and towering spires. Bison, bighorn sheep, and prairie dogs inhabit its sprawling grasslands. The Badlands Loop Road winds past scenic lookouts. Several trails begin near the Ben Reifel Visitor Center. The Fossil Exhibit Trail is a boardwalk with displays on fossils uncovered in the park.

12:30 p.m.          Lunch on own at Wall Drugstore.

                Wall Drug is the ultimate South Dakota tourist attraction, known around the globe for its American charm and FREE ice water. Learn how Ted and Dorothy Hustead turned a small pharmacy of the Great Depression era into a booming tourist attraction in the “geographical middle of nowhere” with the promise of free ice water and more than 3,000 signs around the world. Expect to spend some time stretching your legs and exploring the shops, stops, and activities at Wall Drug, including our 6-foot tall jackalope, donut factory, and more! Re-energize with a nice hot meal and an ice cold beer at our Western Art Gallery Restaurant, featuring the largest privately owned western and illustration art collection in the country! Try our famous homemade donuts and rolls, hot beef sandwiches, buffalo burgers, and, of course, 5 cent coffee.

2:00 p.m.           Return to hotel.

3:30 p.m.           Free afternoon and evening to enjoy downtown Rapid City with dinner on own (downtown Rapid City is a very cool adventure).

 

Day 4 – Wednesday, July 10

7:00 a.m. –   8:30 a.m. Full breakfast included in a private room at the hotel.

9:00 a.m.           Depart Rapid City for Deadwood, SD

10:00 a.m.           Arrive Deadwood. Meet our local guide.

                Tour of Boot Hill, including Mount Moriah Cemetery, where we’ll visit the graves of Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane.

                Remainder of day free to enjoy Deadwood with lunch and dinner on own.

                Return to Rapid City.

 

Day 5 – Thursday, July 11

                Full breakfast included at hotel.

                Free morning to enjoy Rapid City with lunch on own.

TBD           Depart for Rapid City airport.

TBD        Arrive Rapid City airport.

TBD           Depart Rapid City (RAP) for Baltimore (BWI) on American Airlines, changing planes in Charlotte (CLT).

TBD          Arrive Baltimore (BWI).
