Monday, September 30

Depart this morning and travel to New England. After a full day of traveling, check into yHoliday Inn Express and Suites in Tilton. A Dinner Buffet is included nearby at the Canterbury Woods Country Club. (D)

Tuesday, October 1

We depart this morning for Bretton Woods to the Cog Railroad Base Station and take a scenic ride to the summit of Mt. Washington. Clear conditions provide spectacular views of the Northern Presidentials, the western face of the summit cone and the Mount Washington Observatory. Passengers will lay over at the summit for approximately one hour before returning to the base station. plenty of time to explore the Sherman Adams Visitor Center and its rooftop observation deck, Extreme Mount Washington (an interactive weather exhibit), a cafeteria, and two gift shops. Send a card to friends and family with a unique Mount Washington post mark from the summit Post Office!

Adjacent to the visitor center is the historic Tip Top House, an original summit hotel dating back to 1853. It’s the same building that sheltered Sylvester Marsh and his pastor during a life-threatening storm in 1857, and it’s where the seeds of the Cog Railway were planted in his mind. Now a museum, it is believed to be the oldest existing mountain top hostelry in the world. 

Later, we’ll travel to Lincoln and enjoy a Wine Tasting at the Seven Birches Winery before enjoying a home-made Style Dinner as Grandma served at Thanksgiving in Meredith. The meal Includes Turkey, Potato, Gravy, Stuffing, Cranberry Sauce, Roll, Vegetable, Beverage and Dessert too! (B, L, D)

Wednesday, October 2

This morning we head southeast into Maine, with its coastline of jagged rocks, lobster boats and lighthouses. We’ll stop in Kennebunkport to browse the shops and drive by Walkers Point, summer home of former President George Bush. We’ll enjoy a traditional Lobster Bake with Entertainment and stop for pictures at Cape Neddick Light. Also fondly known to all as “the Nubble”, this lighthouse is one of the most photographed in Maine.

Before returning to our hotel, we’ll visit Stonewall Kitchen, known for its jams and jellies as well as sauces, condiments, mustards, baking mixes, and more. Dinner on our own this evening. (B, D)

Thursday, October 3

After breakfast this morning, we’ll depart for Weirs Beach for a cruise on the MS Mt. Washington to Wolfeboro, where we’ll have lunch on our own. Then we head north to North Conway Village we’ll browse the many interesting shops and boutiques.

We continue over one of the most scenic highways in New England, the Kangamangus, one of the most scenic drives in the northeast. There are plenty of scenic overlooks for pictures.

Dinner is once again included in Lincoln before returning to our hotel.
